Friendships in D Minor
Experience #10 brought the first KCS circle back together. By this point, KCS had moved from a good idea to a recurring way of getting people around the counter.
The menu went Thai: larb moo and tom kha gai to start, Thai-flavoured beef salad as the main, and a lemongrass and coconut panna cotta to finish.
The music was Masked Chant, a set built from edits and reworks of music from the 80s and 90s. It was made for people who had been part of the story from the beginning and knew exactly when the evening should stop being polite.

Coconut panna cotta flavoured with lemongrass and toasted coconut.
Wine Selection

Santa Ana Reserve Malbec 2021 was not an obvious match for a Thai-flavoured beef salad, which is why we wanted to try it.
The concern was the citrus in the dressing, but the wine was smoother than expected. Its fruit worked with the tamarind and palm sugar, while the earthy notes picked up the galangal and garlic. The mild chilli heat also sat well with the wine's peppery finish.
It was not a conventional pairing, but it worked because the wine stayed fruit-led rather than oak-heavy.
